Carlo Ancelotti, manager of Real Madrid, emphasized the necessity for heightened pace and intensity in their upcoming return leg against Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-finals.

He highlighted this as critical for maintaining their hopes of achieving the LaLiga-European Cup double.

His comments come after Real Madrid secured the LaLiga title early, yet Ancelotti expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s performance in the first-leg draw against Bayern in Germany, which ended 2-2.

Ancelotti, addressing the media, underscored the importance of not underestimating Bayern, despite their less-than-stellar domestic performance this season, marked by Bayer Leverkusen ending Bayern’s 11-year Bundesliga reign.

He pointed out the extra motivation Bayern possesses, as the Champions League remains their only chance for silverware this season.

Reflecting on the challenges posed by Bayern, Ancelotti remarked, “We need a match with intensity, with pace… Looking at the first leg, defensively we could have done a lot more.”

He stressed the need for a strong defensive effort and acknowledged the formidable history and success shared by both clubs, which necessitates a high level of respect for the opposition.

Dani Carvajal, one of Real’s most seasoned players, also spoke to the press, sharing his insights into the team’s mood.

Despite Ancelotti’s concerns, Carvajal revealed a sense of excitement and anticipation within the team.

He humorously noted Ancelotti’s growing apprehensions over the years but praised his role in keeping the team focused on their goal of clinching a record-extending 15th European title.

The defender also mentioned the positive atmosphere among the fans, bolstered by the team’s unbeaten streak in the competition and recent LaLiga triumph.

“There is euphoria because we are having a great year,” Carvajal expressed.

He conveyed the team’s collective motivation and focus, highlighting the importance of unity and determination in reaching their objectives, especially with the final at Wembley Stadium on the horizon on June 1.
