In a sharp critique, Dmitry Medvedev, a prominent figure aligned with Russian President Vladimir Putin, harshly criticized U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday.

Medvedev branded Biden a “mad” embarrassment to the United States, especially criticizing his attempt to draw parallels with Franklin D. Roosevelt during his State of the Union address.

Biden, in his speech, referenced Roosevelt’s 1941 Congress address, highlighting a pivotal moment in history, while also condemning Donald Trump’s perceived subservience to Russia and sending a defiant message to Putin regarding Ukraine, stating, “We will not walk away.”

Medvedev, expressing his disdain on the social platform X, contrasted Roosevelt’s historical achievements with Biden’s current actions, describing the latter as a figure intent on leading humanity to disaster.

He accused Biden of endeavoring to initiate a third world war and of supporting factions reminiscent of those Roosevelt fought against during World War II.

“Roosevelt was fighting against fascists, but Biden is fighting for them,” Medvedev asserted, adding, “He is the United States’ disgrace!”

Once regarded as a liberal reformer during his presidency (2008-2012), Medvedev has since transformed into a vocal critic of the West, with his current statements reflecting a broader sentiment within the Kremlin’s upper echelons.

His remarks provide insight into the Kremlin’s perception of international relations, particularly the deteriorating ties between Russia and the West, exacerbated by the conflict in Ukraine and Biden’s controversial remarks about Putin.

The discord has been heightened by Biden’s comments, which included referring to Putin as a “crazy SOB,” a remark that sparked outrage among Russian officials.

Putin, with a notably ironic demeanor, suggested that such statements only reinforced the Kremlin’s preference for Biden over Trump as a future president.

Within this context, Biden also mentioned global threats including Putin, the risk of nuclear conflict, and the existential crisis posed by climate change, painting a picture of the U.S. and its allies as a waning empire opposed to Russia’s sovereignty and eager to exploit its resources.
