In a significant meeting in Florida, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban, known for his right-wing nationalist stance, expressed support for Donald Trump’s aspiration to return to the presidency.

This encounter underscored their shared emphasis on stringent border security to uphold national sovereignty, as highlighted by Trump’s campaign.

Orban’s approach, often clashing with European Union policies, particularly on issues like refraining from arming Kyiv amidst the Ukrainian crisis and maintaining economic connections with Moscow post the 2022 invasion, was evident.

He strongly believes that Trump’s comeback would be pivotal for achieving peace in Ukraine, a sentiment he shared on X following their meeting.

The Hungarian Prime Minister is celebrated among some American conservatives for his strict immigration policies, family support initiatives, and advocacy for national sovereignty.

Orban reminisced about the tranquility in the Middle East and Ukraine during Trump’s term through a Facebook video, emphasizing the need for respected leaders capable of fostering peace.

Trump, reciprocating the admiration, lauded Orban on Truth Social, highlighting Hungary’s safety due to its firm immigration policies and predicting its continued state under Orban’s leadership.

Orban’s tenure has been marked by controversies within the EU, stemming from his anti-immigration campaigns and efforts to increase state control over the judiciary, NGOs, and media. Critics argue these actions have weakened Hungary’s democratic framework.

Moreover, while Orban has voiced opposition to EU sanctions against Russia, he has ultimately not vetoed them, showing a complex relationship with EU policies, including a delayed but eventual agreement on new aid for Ukraine earlier this year.
